The idea of the Voicebow is to play the human voice like a stringed instrument.

The instrument is based on a simple string instrument - a monochord. With a touch sensor and a pickup, the instrument becomes an electronic musical instrument, with the human voice as the sound material.
The way the string is played - plucked, struck or bowed - shapes the sound of the voice.

From percussion-like plucked plosives to bowed vowels, the instrument enables a rich spectrum of haptic and intuitive forms of expression for the medium of the electronic voice.
